I want to use text in my edits and gifs, but have no idea what are good text combinations. Emma sent me here for some advice. Could you please help me out?

Hmm well it all depends on what you think looks best, i mean it can change with each edit tbh!

I don’t tend to do much fancy typography on my edits, though when i do it just tends to be a case of mixing fancy handwriting/curlier fonts like sunshine in my soulsweetly broken or jellyka with straighter/bolder fonts like optimusprincepsperpetua, or tall dark and handsome etc.

I’d say you should go browse dafont.com and DL lots of free fonts and play around with them to see which ones you like best, then keep them in mind when you make an edit and try each one to see if they look good!

Hope that was helpful in some way :)

hi :) i was wondering, when you put two gifs on one canvas, how do you make it so that the coloring on the top gif doesn't apply on the bottom one?

hmmm, i would say it’s a good idea to do all your editing of the two gifs separately, then ‘flatten frames into layers’ for them both. Then you can copy/paste one gif over the other which will keep the colouring separate and allow you to then edit however you like :)

I have a question for you. on some of your supernatural edits, the text fades to other text on gifs...how did you do it on photoshop?? do you know of a tutorial online?? and by the way, your edits are flawless and amazing. and i have sooooo freaking excited for once upon a time tonight!!! :) thank youuu darling!

I’m afraid I don’t know of any tutorials, but there will be some out there, though it’s pretty simple really;

  • First of all make sure you have your gif frames showing
  • Add TEXT1 to the first few frames you want (lets say frames 1-4), then add TEXT2 to to ones immediately after (lets say 5-8)
  • It’s basically the 3 frames in between TEXT1 and TEXT2 you have to alter (so lets say these will be frames 4, 5 & 6)
  • The you want to overlay the texts over each other, so in frame 4 you have TEXT1 at 100% opacity, then make TEXT2 visible and put the opacity around 40%
  • Then in frame 5 put both TEXT1&2 at the same opacity, let’s say 70%
  • Then in frame 6 swap around the earlier step with TEXT2 at 100% opacity and TEXT1 about 40% opacity
  • Then in frame 7 obviously remove TEXT1 altogether so just TEXT2 is showing
  • You can add a few more frames than 3 to this to make it smoother, but the steps are basically the same, just change around the opacity but make it gradual as you go :)

I hope that made sense, any issues drop me another ask!

& ahh thank you! :D x

How do you keep your GIFs under 1MB?

‘How’ as in techniques or ‘how’ as in checking it’s under the limit?

If the former, i just: use less frames, use dark gradients, reduce the height, still part of the gif (but only so much so it doesn’t look weird) or make it b+w (in which case i can go down to about 20ish colours and still make it hq)

If the latter, when ‘saving for web and devices’ just click this in the corner;

and i set the ‘desired file size’ to ‘999k’ (as sometimes it seems to go over 1mb for me if i put that in instead) and click ‘okay’ and see how many colours you get, then you know how much you need to adjust it, if at all, to get it within the limit and still be hq :)

hi. i was wondering how you put multiple gifs on one background and space them, but the space in between them is clear, like in this set post/30837479732/fairestcharming-the-life-and-times-of-james

It’s pretty easy, just delete the white background layer which should be the bottom layer underneath all your frames :)

Anonymous ASKED:
how do you isolate colours like this post. fairestcharming(.)tumblr(.)com(/)post(/)27657783946/because-who-doesnt-love-the-capes

  • Firstly just take the screencap you want and edit the size etc. to how you want it
  • Then duplicate it so there’s 2 of the same screencap
  • Have one of the caps edited black and white (and flattened so it’s a single layer) on top, then the other cap edited in colour underneath.
  • Then all you have to do it erase parts of the b&w layer which will reveal the colours underneath, simple as that! :D
  • Make sense?

Anonymous ASKED:
What speed do you use on your gifs?

It tends to vary on, if you screencap gifs, how many frames per second you cap … i take 16 frames a second when i screencap and usually around 0.16 secs in terms of speed :)

can is ask you what are your gif saving settings?

[though obviously the size can be what you want]

this is for colour gifs, i like to keep them at 256 colours to keep the best quality, as for black and white or similar gifs i find they can be anything over 20 and look fine :)

Do you sharpen each and every single layer individually? What other techniques are there?

As far as i know there’s no quicker way than sharpening each layer individually, though once you use sharpen once you can usually use ctrl+F as a shortcut :)

edit: ahh the lovey effys has given me a link to one where you can sharpen all at once; looksee here (thank you! :D)

aaand look here too :P

editedit (lol): apparently there’s a timeline thing too (though i think that’s CS5? I have CS4 anyways) … check the comments :)

(thanks for the responses guys, this is actually really useful :D)

Anonymous ASKED:
how do i start out making graphics?

Ooh okay erm, get your hands on a good editing program, i’d suggest photoshop which you can download, have a look at my future reference tag where i’ve reblogged some posts with DLs (here), though whether they’re still working links i don’t know …

I’d also suggeest getting KMPlayer which you can find and DL through google which will let you screencap video files/DVDs etc. which you then load into photoshop to edit.

Then get downloading psds/textures etc. and just play around with making things, there’s lots of tutorials out there if you need help, Mary makes some awesome tutorials here :)

so yeah, get creative! :D

I want to start downloading things to make gifs and graphics but I'm a little confused with all the types of file. Do I go for 720p or 1080p? The file sizes are pretty big, is there any way to have smaller files but still have high quality?

Well 1080p is obviously the best quality you can get, but yeah they can be pretty huge files that just take up space and take forever to download … I always go for 720p which are a good size and don’t take too long to DL, and the gifs look HQ as well … I don’t know of any smaller size files that’d give you the same quality as 720p so i’d go with that :)
